POO

Yet again I am having to post about dog poo in the Exercise Field.

This is becoming tiresome, yesterday I spent time in the Exercise Field (Easter Monday) picking up poo, cleaning up  where someone had put a poo bag with a stone over a sloppy mess, poos shoved through the fence. There has also been evidence of worms in some poo, this is just not acceptable. This Field is based on trust.  I left at 6.30 pm and it was completely clear only to hear that at 11 o'clock this morning (Tuesday) 3 lots had not been picked up.

It is not fair that I have to spend a Bank Holiday on poo patrol.

This is such a lovely place to exercise your dogs, and it is beyond me that people just leave dog poo for someone else to pick up. There is sand and disinfectant provided if your dog is a bit loose.

I suggest when you arrive with your dog/s that before your dogs are let out that you take a quick walk around the Field to ensure it is clear, then afterwards when you are about to leave. If everyone pulls together on this then hopefully this problem can be eliminated once and for all.

We have a waiting list for this Field and I regret that if anyone is found not to be picking up then the spot will  be relinquished.

CHOOSING A BEHAVIOURIST

 

 

These are just some of the behaviours owners will seek help with their dog and usually they are desperate. So where do they get that help? Many surf the internet, others may respond to ads in local pet shops, some by word of mouth

 

What I am seeing more and more of is the fall out from people who purport to be very experienced, Professional Behaviour/ Training Consultants, who charge large sums of money and have actually made the dog worse.

 

Then there are others who claim they have been working with dogs for many years, decide to set up a business, and actually haven't a clue when it comes to dog behaviour. They usually charge a very minimal amount, whilst trying to sell you dog food, dog toys, leads and collars, coupled with Pet Sitting, Dog Walking and a whole host of other services. This should send warning bells as they are dabbling with everything.

 

The fact of the matter is there is no actual legislation to stop anyone setting up as a Dog Trainer/Behaviourist. So anyone in reality can go out there and work with dogs maintaining they can sort it out when in reality they shouldn't be anywhere near a dog.

 

There is also an organization very well marketed, that anyone who has the money can buy a Franchise, get 6 weeks training then they are free to work with dogs.

 

All I would say to anyone if you are seeking help ask as many questions as you can:-

 

What qualifications do they have

 

What training courses have they attended

 

Can they supply references, testimonials and don't be afraid to take them up.

 

Word of mouth is by far the best way of finding a good Behaviourist/ Trainer

 

Ask your Vet

 

Question their methods of training, ie do they believe in positive methods, treats etc.,

.,

What are their views on training aids, choke chains, if they advocate the use of any type of choke chain, pinch collars electric collars walk away. 

 

If it doesn't feel right it probably isn't.

 

So get the best advice you can, you owe it to your dog

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and all the very best for the New Year

 

There were many highlights of 2013 and some sad ones.

 

Our School continues to grow and during 2013 we met many new dogs and their owners. It was a pleasure seeing them blossom.

 

We launched our Field of Dreams Display Team - The Dream Team and how good are they looking. Hopefully many will get to see them in 2014 as we do it for Charity.  

 

MANY SUCCESSES ON THE AGILITY FIELD. 

 

 

Bob has trained many people successfully over the years and this year again was no exception Jayne Widdess, Sarah Maclean and Roger Teasdale have made the England Team for 2014 in Italy.  Well done to them.

 

Lots of people have seen their rosettes grow and move up the Grades during 2013. Looking at the potential of many handlers and their dogs in training the trend will certainly continue in 2014

 

Evie is now taking classes and doing really well. This year will be interesting for Evie with her dog Ace, together with Blaze and Roxy, starting in February when she competes in the big International Junior Competition. She has already had amazing success and at the very young age of 13 this is no mean feat.    

 

For 2014 Bob will be doing his own Blog and reporting on the Agility Front on a regular basis with his usual sense of Yorkshire humour.

 

RE-HOMING

 

 

 

 

Re-homing of dogs has again been very rewarding with dogs being taken into fabulous homes. Big thanks to the people who made this possible. Already in 2014 dogs are looking for homes.

 

Rob Dixon RIP

 

Sadly in August we heard the very sad  news that Rob Dixon had passed away very suddenly. He was a lovely man, with a huge personality and is greatly missed. Rob took us to Crufts this year giving up his whole week-end to drive the bus. Sally with Maisie has to go on without him, but I am pleased to say that she continues to come to the Field and is a part of the Display Team.

 

Many people had to say goodbye to their dogs, it is very hard and anyone who has dogs will completely understand the heartache this brings with it.  

 

So to everyone here's to a fun filled 2014 at the Field and may all you wish for be fulfilled

DOG THIEVES IN THE AREA

This morning (Sunday 24th Nov)  2 Men with Irish accents, in a white Transit Van entered the Exercise Field where a Woman and her 4 year old Son were exercising their dogs. They asked her to sell the dogs to them and when she refused one of them grabbed one of the dogs and tried to make off with her. The dog wriggled so much that he dropped her and they made off. 

We ask that all people using this Field please lock yourself in, these men left the gate wide open and thank god none of the other dogs escaped. We have had people stop and ask if we sell dogs but never have they made any attempt to come in.

It is only a few weeks ago that a dog was grabbed from a woman walking him in the Misterton area. This dog thankfully was reunited with its owner.

So please be vigilant the last thing we want is for someone to lose their dog/s.

.DISGUSTED

I have been on the receiving end of an utterly disgusting e-mail that was nothing more than an outpouring of poison directed to me as a person. These people are known to me and have been coming to our classes for several weeks.  I have no idea where this has all come from, why they did not make their personal feelings known is beyond me.

What is even more puzzling is the e-mail and telephone number were false, I suspect because they didn't want any communication from me.  I have replied to them to an e-mail that I have on record. I would like an explanation but of course I don't expect for a minute that I will get one and to date there has been no response.

The message I would give out to anyone, don't be a coward and hide behind an e-mail, text etc., just do the decent thing and talk to the person face to face if you have issues.

KEEPING THE FIELD CLEAN

DOG POO ..........AGAIN !!!!!!

We have always requested that you pick up after your dog and take your poo home, however it seems that if the poo is quite sloppy to pick up then it's being left and stones are being put over it and left.

This is simply not good enough as some of the other dogs using the field are finding this attractive and rolling in it. It is also not fair to the other users of the field that bring children up there. We have therefore left a box of sand by the entrance along with   disinfectant, so there is no excuse if your dog is a bit sloppy, simply swill and cover with sand.

We operate a clean field so anyone caught not conforming with this will simply lose their slot.

PICTURE OF OUR EXERCISE FIELD

This is aimed at owners who would like their dogs to have a run off the lead in complete safe secure surroundings. People with many dogs often find it difficult to walk them altogether and with the bye-laws of only 4 dogs per person on the lead at any one time it can be a problem especially in public places. It is also useful for owners with dogs that have a poor re-call, they can have a good blast off the lead or on a training line if in use.

Dogs with issues can also come along, the owners feel completely at ease knowing that their dog can have a run without the risk of running into problems. Dogs with dog to dog aggression or people aggression are welcome but will only be booked in after answering a questionnaire so that they do not pose a risk to other dogs/people. This is purely for safety reasons.

All sessions are individual to each owner and not for multiple owners, however should you wish to have a group session then please ask for our group rates.

The field is adjacent to the training field which is in use the majority of the time.

As this service is unsupervised all dogs brought to the field are entirely at the owner’s risk and the Field of Dreams cannot accept any responsibility for the safety or welfare of the dogs or the people handling them. The onus is on the owners to divulge all the information asked for in terms of vaccinations, behaviour problems etc.,

ABSOLUTELY VITAL IF WE ARE TO KEEP THIS FIELD POO FREE, ANY ONE NOT FOUND TO BE PICKING UP WILL RELINQUISH THEIR SLOTS

Slots are  booked on an hourly basis and the charges  per week are as follows:

These of course can be subject to change dependant upon people’s requirements so times will be updated here on a regular basis.

Once the clocks change people may want to change their times to allow for the lighter/darker nights. You can take as many hourly slots as you wish subject to availability.

If you decide that you would like to exercise your dog outside your booked times then please ring for availability,

if it’s not booked then you are of course welcome to use the Field at the same cost. It is important that you do not just not turn up ad-hoc outside your allotted time without referring to this list first and or giving me a ring.

Out of courtesy it would be helpful if you would inform us if you no longer wish to use the Field as we have a waiting list for certain slots.

If we do not hear from you and a month elapses, we will assume you no longer wish to use the Field and your slot will become available.  The slots have been updated to reflect these changes.

May I also remind users of the Field that payment is in advance and should 1 month elapse without payment then those slots will become available.
